Work Environment

Jobs are available in a diverse range of working environments and the majority of them in holiday areas.

National Parks

Ever imagined what it would be like living in remote areas that offer some of the most spectacular natural sights in the world? Wake up to the sounds of nature and end the day with beautiful sunsets. If that sounds like the sort of environment you are into, there are jobs in the lodging and visitor centres within National Parks and in the small towns nearby. Some of the areas we have placed students are the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Mt Rainier and Custer Park.

Afraid of being bored in a remote area? Working alongside hundreds of other Americans or students from around the world, it is a good place to forge lasting friendships and do some soul searching without any distractions.

Jobs include working in food outlets, souvenir stores and lodging centres.

Theme Parks

There are numerous theme parks and amusement parks across the US. Millions of people flock to these parks every year especially in the Summer, creating lots of seasonal job opportunities. If you never tire of the exhilarating thrill rides, you will be able to ride them as often as you want working at these parks. Here are some of the theme parks our students have worked in the past :

Cedar Point, Morey’s Piers, Kings Dominion, Silver Dollar City, Sea World Orlando and Busch Gardens.

Jobs include working as a park or ride host, life guard, food host, cashier, retail assistant, and housekeeping.

Travel Venues – travel plazas and airports

HMSHost is world-renowned for creating innovative concession plans in travel venues. HMSHost has concession stations in 80 airports worldwide, and 100 motorway travel plazas in North America. If you wish to be placed in a busy area and work in cafes, fast food outlets or convenience stores, HMSHost offers many locations around the US in summer and winter. The proximity to nearby cities is an advantage.

Resort / Hotel

Resorts and hotels hire students during the high season in summer and winter. Though your duties may not be very exciting, you are being paid to work in what is often a beautiful environment or in the city. The most common jobs are housekeeping, front desk, hotel laundry, hotel maintenance and restaurant facilities, for example as a waiter or kitchen staff. Here are some examples of the areas our students have worked in the past :

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Big Sur lodge in California, Stoweflake Resort Mountain in Vermont

Restaurants and other food outlets

Waiting on tables is often the most sought after job. It might be tiring and often involve working under great pressure, but you will come into contact with different types of people and often make good money through tips, especially in expensive restaurants. Good language skills, working attitude and personality are required for these positions. Experience working in the US or in a restaurant will be a great advantage. Other positions offered which pay a fixed wage are bussers who clear tables, kitchen help and dishwashing staff. Jobs in other food outlets like diners, cafe and fast food chains are also common. Housing is often not arranged by these employers.

We have placed students at Hard Rock Café in Gatlinburg, Tennessee for 2 season.
