Timing & Duration

Most participants in the Work & Travel USA programme fall into one of the following three seasons, which correspond to the term breaks of most local universities and colleges, as well as employers’ hiring periods:

Summer: May – October
Fall : September – December
Winter: November – March

This said, Work & Travel USA is available year round, so if your semester break falls outside these seasons, contact us to discuss your options.

The minimum employment period is two months and maximum four months. In addition to the working period, students are allowed to remain in the USA for an additional month to travel. You are not allowed to work during this period. Total stay in the USA should not exceed 5 months or duration of your term break.

Students may not miss part of their term in order to participate in Work & Travel USA – they must complete their term before traveling to the USA to take up a job, and must return to their home country in time to start the new semester. Deferment of a term is acceptable (with proof from university) provided students have good enough reason for a deferment eg. not having a long enough term break throughout students’ academic course.
