BackgroundWork and Travel USA is an official US Department of State Exchange Visitor programme initially established under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961. The objective of the programme is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through cultural exchanges. The Work and Travel USA programme enables international students - who might not otherwise be able to explore life in the USA - to spend a semester break in the USA, taking up temporary employment (for up to four months) to help cover their travel expenses. All participants have the option to travel in the US for up to a month after their employment period. The total period spent in the US should not exceed the duration of the term break. This programme should not be misconstrued as an opportunity to gain permanent employment or work experience in your field of study. Participants are encouraged to use the opportunity to learn about American culture and be an ambassador of your home country. |
